TORRENTIUS
STILL LIFE WITH BRIDlE
During a trip to Amsterdam, Ventós comes across a painting that he had never seen before, completely unknown to him: Discreetly positioned in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam was Still Life with Bridle , a masterpiece that instantly captivated him. Its creator, the mysterious and misunderstood Dutch artist with a turbulent past, Johannes Simonsz van de Beeck known as Torrentius, and of whom only this unusual and mysterious work remains.
Then, after reading Still Life with Bridle, a story by the Polish Zbigniew Herbert about the reality that surrounded this painting, he begins a need for Ventós to pay homage to its author, a victim of the misunderstanding of his time. Thus, from a single painting, 22 works were born, such as the arcana, eleven paintings, eleven collages and numerous gouaches.
The exhibition opens at the Sala Parés in Barcelona in 2017.
In 2019 Ventós's great dream materializes, to bring this exhibition to Torrentius's native country, which opens in May at the OMA, the central library in Amsterdam, and moves to the Cervantes Institute in Utrecht in September 2021.
